JOIERS BORRÀS

GUILLEM AND JORDI


Guillem and Jordi Borràs are brothers born into a family of jewellers. They grew up in their father’s home and workshop, where tools and metals were part of everyday life. At the jeweller’s bench, they learned their craft from their father.

Guillem trained at the Escola Taller d’Arts i Oficis de la Diputació de Tarragona and the Escola de Joieria de la Federació Catalana de Joiers in Barcelona, and took additional courses in drawing, stone setting, engraving and enamelling. Jordi Borràs studied at the Escola d’Art de Tarragona and the Escola Massana in Barcelona, later specialising in 3D design. Across two generations, the family has received numerous awards and distinctions and created works closely connected to Tarragona. In 1996, the brothers opened their own workshop on Carrer del Portalet, where they create modern, functional and minimalist jewellery.

This family heritage has shaped their approach: every Borràs jewel is rooted in a tradition rich in character and personal experience, refined through years of thought and practice. With strong ties to art and to Tarragona, they contribute to local projects, including the construction of the baldachin for the Corpus Christi monstrance at Tarragona Cathedral. Standing two metres tall and weighing 50 kilograms, this work in the Catalan Modernista style is a landmark in their professional lives and in the city’s cultural heritage.

They embrace design and new technologies while making their jewellery locally and with care. In their workshop, they use traditional goldsmithing techniques to make every piece by hand in small batches.

Their work draws on the cultural heritage of the Mediterranean. Inspired by distinctive places, their designs give shape and volume to the natural forms, landscapes and cities around them.

Tarragona and the Mediterranean are a constant source of inspiration as they imagine and create each piece in their small workshop in the Part Alta, Tarragona’s historic upper town.

  • FIRST PRIZE, awarded by the professional jury, in the ENJOIA’T-95 competition organised by Foment de les Arts Decoratives (FAD), Barcelona.

  • FIRST PRIZE for European costume jewellery design at EURO-BIJOUX & ACCESORIAS, held in Maó in 1996.

  • SPECIAL PRIZE for the EURO-BIJOUX logo at the same event in 1996.

  • Selected for the 6th «DIAMANTES HOY-96» Design Seminar, held in Madrid in June 1996.

  • HONOURABLE MENTION (ACCÉSIT) in the 10th Castilla-La Mancha Competition for Design Applied to Crafts, 1997.

  • FIRST PRIZE for European costume jewellery design at EURO-BIJOUX, held in May 1997.
